Hemant Khanna

Patent Agent

Hemant Khanna has deep experience counseling innovative businesses of all sizes and helping them secure patents in the life sciences space. With a background that includes scientific research and product development, as well as experience working as a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) patent examiner, Hemant has a wealth of knowledge to draw on as he advises clients, performs due diligence, and completes the patent prosecution process. He is a valuable resource for and collaborator with Venable's intellectual property (IP) attorneys.

Hemant has worked on U.S. and international patent prosecutions at boutique IP firms and companies developing life-sciences-related artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics software. In addition to his work at Venable, Hemant serves as a mentor and advisor to fledgling businesses in the North Carolina startup ecosystem.

As a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, Hemant collaborated with government and industry partners in terpene/protein/carbohydrate chemistry research into potential cancer therapeutics. After earning his doctorate, Hemant spent four years conducting research for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) before pivoting to a career in intellectual property.
