McLaughlin Melissa
Melissa McLaughlin is a member of Venable's Commercial Litigation Group. She has experience representing clients in a variety of business disputes, including complex commercial cases, trademark and copyright matters, employment cases, and defending clients in consumer class action litigation. She has experience in state and federal court.


Representative Matters

  • Represented international retail company in multiple California class action lawsuits alleging violations of the Song Beverly Act for improperly collecting customer’s zip code information at point of sale.
  • Represented a national company in several lawsuits involving discrimination, harassment, trade secret, and other employment-related claims.
  • Defended advertisers and affiliate networks in individual actions and consumer class actions involving allegations of violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and California’s Anti-Spam Act, Business and Professions Code section 17529.5.
  • Represented a U.S. exclusive licensee in a Lanham Act anti-counterfeiting matter, which involved obtaining an ex parte seizure order to raid the infringer’s facilities, as well as a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction.
  • Defeated an ex parte application for temporary restraining order and a motion for preliminary injunction, and obtained a demurrer with prejudice, on behalf of a national insurance brokerage group and its employee facing claims for breach of a non-compete agreement and unfair competition.
  • Defended various consumer product companies against claims of false advertising and California’s Unfair Competition Law, Business and Professions Code section 17200.
