Julie A. Sorenson

Associate

Julie Sorenson provides full-service counseling to nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations throughout their life cycles, from formation to operations and dissolution. Julie understands the diversity among nonprofits and gets to know each client organization, so she can provide advice tailored to their individual needs. She also provides counsel on applications for exemption, grantmaking, contracts, investments, taxes, and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) annual reporting. Julie is experienced in developing and delivering presentations and training to educate client boards and staff members on a variety of legal issues that affect their organizations.

Julie has experience navigating tax laws that affect different types of nonprofit organizations and helping them avoid missteps that could trigger excise taxes or endanger their tax-exempt status, particularly Section 501(c)(3) private foundations and public charities. She has done tax work and representation before the IRS at law firms and one of the Big Four accounting firms and has an LLM in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
