Before joining Venable, Matt worked at a boutique litigation firm in Los Angeles and a large international law firm. He also clerked for two Los Angeles federal judges—the Honorable Fernando M. Olguin and the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson—where he honed his skills in legal research and writing, as well as trial preparation.
In law school, Matt served as executive notes editor of the Michigan Law Review and as pro bono director for OutLaws, Michigan Law's LGBTQ+ student organization. He also gained insight into the practice of federal criminal law as a summer extern in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
Prior to law school, Matt worked at a Washington, DC-based strategic communications and crisis management consultancy, where he developed and executed public relations and lobbying campaigns on behalf of clients ranging from foreign governments to major corporations and nonprofits.
Matt lives in Los Angeles and is an active member of the community. He serves on the New Leadership Council of Bet Tzedek, a local legal aid organization, and swims for the West Hollywood Aquatics team.
