Awards for Baltimore and Washington partners includes recognition for Corporate Governance and Compliance, Labor/Employment, Environmental and Real Estate
Washington, DC/Baltimore, MD (October 26, 2010) – Continuing its recent streak of earning peer recognition for its market-leading practices, Venable LLP announced that five of the firm’s attorneys have been named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession.
This is the first time that Best Lawyers is designating “Lawyer of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”
The Venable attorneys honored for stand-out reputations in Baltimore and in Washington are:
James Hanks, Jr., named 2011 Baltimore Corporate Governance and Compliance Lawyer of the Year. Mr. Hanks, who has advised on hundreds of merger and acquisition deals in his career, has been called the “Dean of Maryland Corporate Law.”
Kenneth Hoffman, named 2011 Baltimore Employee Benefits Lawyer of the Year. Mr. Hoffman has experience in all areas of employee benefits and executive compensation, including employment agreements, qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, tax-sheltered annuities, and negotiating compensation and benefits for senior management.
Todd Horn, named 2011 Baltimore Labor and Employment Lawyer of the Year. Mr. Horn has been lead counsel in a number of the nation’s largest employment discrimination class action lawsuits. He is also co-author of the leading treatise, “Maryland Employment Law.”
Judson Starr, named 2011 Washington, DC Environmental Lawyer of the Year. Mr. Starr, a former Chief of the Department of Justice’s Environmental Crimes Section, represents corporations facing serious and complex environmental investigations, enforcement actions and litigation matters.
Stefan Tucker, named 2011 Washington, DC Real Estate Lawyer of the Year. Mr. Tucker, who has previously been named to Worth Magazine’s list of Top 100 Attorneys, has represented Washington’s best known corporations, individuals, families and entrepreneurs in the full range of transactional matters.
The Best Lawyers’ rankings follow recent honors earned by Venable in Chambers USA, in which the firm won a coveted Award of Excellence for its advertising practice, as well as by U.S. News & World Report, which highlighted a number of Venable attorneys as tops in their respective practice categories.
Best Lawyers compiles its rankings through peer-review surveys in which thousands of lawyers evaluate their counterparts at other law firms. The 17th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2011) is based on more than 3.1 million detailed evaluations of lawyers across the country.
