Venable associate Benjamin Stockman was quoted in an August 22, 2016 Society for Human Resource Management article on voting leave laws across the country. While there is no federal law granting employees time off to go vote, many states have their own laws which grant employees time off to vote.

"Penalties for failure to comply with the [New York] law can result in fines from $100 to $500 and/or jail time of up to one year," said Stockman. He added that "corporations may face the forfeiture of a corporate charter for failure to comply."
