Venable LLP is pleased to announce that two of its partners—James K. Archibald and Kevin L. Shepherd—are recipients of The Daily Record’s 2005 “Leadership in Law” awards.
The “Leadership in Law” awards honor 24 outstanding members of Maryland’s legal community throughout the five regions of Maryland: Central, Suburban, Southern, Western, and the Eastern Shore. Nominees are judged based on the efforts they have invested in bettering the legal profession, as well as the communities in which they live and work, and on how they have striven, through mentoring efforts, to promote a strong future generation of professional and community leaders.

Mr. Archibald has been practicing law in Maryland for more than 29 years and has extensive first-chair experience in the defense and prosecution of large, complex civil litigation cases, with a particular focus on products liability, toxic torts, commercial disputes, and class actions. Practicing out of Venable's Baltimore and Washington, DC offices, Mr. Archibald is one of a handful of lawyers licensed in Maryland and DC who is both a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
As co-chair of Venable’s Real Estate Group, Mr. Shepherd leads one of the preeminent real estate practices in the nation, and has made a significant and positive impact in shaping real estate law in Maryland. With more than 20 years of experience, he represents large national and multinational institutions in complex real estate transactions, ranging from the development of electric generation power plant facilities to world-class resort complexes to the world headquarters of a multinational biotechnology and life science firm. Mr. Shepherd is currently Chair of the ABA Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, and he is a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
