The Response, a film written and produced by Venable attorney Sig Libowitz, will screen in New York City on October 27th at 7:00 pm at the Judson Memorial Church in New York City.
The event is sponsored by Amnesty International and The Culture Project as the latest installment in their Blueprint for Accountability Film Series. The stars of the film - Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager), Peter Riegert (Animal House, The Sopranos), and Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) will attend the screening and participate in a post-film conversation with Tom Parker, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Policy Director for Amnesty International and Brigadier General James Cullen (Retired), Judge Advocate General Corps.
The Response was executive produced by Venable in association with The University of Maryland School of Law, and is a courtroom drama based, in part, on declassified transcripts of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals (CSRTs) held on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Response was recently named the 2009 ABA Silver Gavel Award winner as best of the year in Drama & Literature. This is the American Bar Association's highest award. The film has been screened at the Pentagon and the Department of Justice, won the Audience Award for Best Film at the Politics on Film festival in Washington, D.C., and has, to date, been accepted as an official selection to seven Academy Award qualifying film festivals.
There is a suggested $10 donation for the screening. For reservations, please email TheResponseRSVP@gmail.com.
