Venable partner Jim Burnley
was quoted in a November 2 Globe and Mail
article on the potential impact changes in the House of Representatives will have on climate change legislation. Canadian environmental activists are concerned that a great number of Republicans in Congress doesn't bode well for cap-and-trade legislation and likely slow Canada's climate change legislation.
Burnley commented, however, that he thinks "the move to cap-and-trade legislation would not be slowed with more Republicans in the House, because the Obama administration had made no progress on that front anyway."
He added, "It was already dead in the water," but that, "There is a remote chance some renewable energy laws might get passed if a consensus bill can be created."
