Venable partner Stu Ingis was quoted in a March 13, 2012 Politico article on the meanings of the Digital Advertising Alliance’s (DAA) advertising opt-out program. At a White House event last month, the DAA proposed an expansion of the program that would let web users opt-out of targeted advertising through their browsers.

Noting that the proposed program would not bar advertising companies from collecting all data, Ingis, DAA’s general counsel, said the group “never agreed to Do Not Track or a Do Not Collect. They are misnomers,” adding, “To actually have something that is a complete stopping of collection would be a bad result for consumers and businesses.” Commenting on the creation of the program, Ingis said federal regulators “pushed us at all levels … to get the high level of standards.”
