Firm recognized for helping improve employees’ health and creating a culture of wellness

Washington, DC (May17, 2013) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that it has been named to the American Heart Association’s annual list of Gold Fit-Friendly Worksites. The American Heart Association recognizes employers as Fit-Friendly Worksites who go above and beyond when it comes to their employees' health and creating a culture of wellness in the workplace.

To be selected for Gold-level recognition, an employer must fulfill a variety of criteria such as offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, as well as implementing at least six of the physical activities, two of the nutrition activities and one of the culture activities listed by the American Heart Association. Final selection is conducted by an American Heart Association expert panel which reviews applications for award recognition.

“Venable is proud to be recognized as a leader in the national movement to improve corporate wellness,” said Bruce R. Sidell, Venable’s Chief Operating Officer and member of the firm’s Wellness Committee. “This recognition places us among an elite group of businesses that are committed to providing a healthy workplace and that have taken significant steps to create a culture of health by providing effective wellness programs, resources and support. We believe there is no better benefit to offer our attorneys and staff than helping them have healthier and fitter lives.”

The American Heart Association’s Fit Friendly Recognition Program was designed to be a catalyst for positive change in American business. The program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees by creating physical activity programs within the workplace. It is also meant to encourage other companies to participate and demonstrate similar physical activity practices for their employees. The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The mission of Venable's Wellness Committee is to provide information, resources and opportunities to enable firm personnel to make healthy lifestyle choices, which can lead to happier and more productive lives. The wellness program also helps make Venable a better place to work while reinforcing a firm culture that provides our colleagues with the support needed to meet our commitment to deliver outstanding service to our clients and the communities within which we work.
