March of Dimes Maryland–National Capital Area Chapter Names Venable Partner Andrew Currie Chapter Counsel to Board of Directors

Position will provide legal advice and counsel to chapter leadership and help with fundraising and volunteer efforts


Washington, DC (May 23, 2013) – The March of Dimes Maryland–National Capital Area Chapter has named Venable partner Andrew J. Currie as the new chapter counsel to the board of directors effective May 2013. Mr. Currie will serve as chapter counsel for a two year term.

Through the position, Mr. Currie will provide legal advice and counsel to chapter leadership and help oversee chapter business and guide the development, implementation, review and evaluation of chapter plans, events and programs. He will also assure the chapter adheres to nonprofit policies and business practices while protecting the organization and its mission by working with chapter volunteers and staff to draft contracts, resolve local legal issues, and provide legal advice. Mr. Currie will help with the organization’s fundraising and volunteer efforts by identifying candidates to serve as event sponsors, leading a March for Babies team and recruiting high-impact volunteer leadership for future events.

Mr. Currie has been heavily involved in negotiating, structuring and closing complicated, multi-million dollar DIP financing and cash collateral transactions on behalf of major lenders and debtors across many industries, and has been instrumental in liquidating and restructuring companies both in the middle market and those with more than $1 billion in debt.
