Jim Burnley quoted on probability of fuel tax increases in DC Velocity

Venable partner Jim Burnley was quoted in an October 24, 2013 DC Velocity article on the probability of the U.S. government raising fuel taxes. The topic arose in a recent speech given by American Trucking Association (ATA) executive Bill Graves where he called for a diesel fuel tax increase to help fund infrastructure projects.

Burnley discussed infrastructure funding at the recent Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' Annual Global Conference in Denver this week, saying that lawmakers may agree to an extension [of a law reauthorizing highway programs] around the September-October time frame, but unless the Democrats win both houses of Congress, that would be the only one. Republicans do not want to raise taxes or channel any more general revenues into the Highway Trust Fund (which finances infrastructure projects), he said.
