CBS News quoted Venable partner Jim Burnley in a May 2, 2014 video interview on the current regulatory climate around the growing commercial drone industry. Businesses must wait for the Federal Aviation Administration to set boundaries around commercial drone use before they can fully invest in the industry.
“The FAA is not dragging its feet, but is being deliberate,” said Burnley. “The biggest issue right now is how to make sure that the aviation space remains safe.”
He added that drone use “in the market place is something that very few people anticipated. So again, it’s very hard to fault the FAA for being a little bit surprised by that. I think we're all pretty surprised.”
