Kevin Shepherd, Chair of the ABA Task Force on Gatekeeper Regulation and the Profession, delivered a presentation on the Gatekeeper Initiative to the Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) at their annual meeting on July 20, 2014. Chief Justice Michael Heavican of the Nebraska Supreme Court, president of the CCJ, invited Kevin to give this presentation. This was Kevin’s fourth presentation to the CCJ. Based on Kevin’s presentation, the CCJ adopted a resolution proposed by Kevin in support of the ABA’s Voluntary Good Practices Guidance to Detect and Combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and the risk-based approach to client due diligence. Membership in the CCJ consists of the highest judicial officers of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the territories of American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
