Venable partner Ashley W. Craig was quoted in a June 25, 2015 Law360 article on the ongoing talks and negotiations around the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). This week, Congress approved trade promotion authority, also known as fast-track, which shields the final agreement from congressional amendments. With fast-track now in place, negotiators are in a better place to make moves without fear of last minute changes endangering final approval.
“There is a lot of work left to be done, not only between the governments, of course, but once it gets back to Capitol Hill," Craig said noting that the administration should take its time given several long recesses for lawmakers over the coming weeks. "I think the administration is going to try and get the TPP done on the government-to-government side once Congress returns after Labor Day. I anticipate that we will have something that will be presented for an up-or-down vote come September."
