Wall Street Journal quotes Mike Volpe on Florida Coastal Law School victory

Venable partner Mike Volpe was quoted in an October 15, 2015 Wall Street Journal article on Venable’s recent victory on behalf of Florida Coastal Law School in a class action filed by former students. The suit alleged that the school misled applicants by publishing misleading information about postgraduate employment statistics. A federal judge ruled that plaintiffs did not have a claim under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and dismissed the case with prejudice.

Discussing the victory, and an earlier win on behalf of New York Law School in a similar suit, Volpe said the suits had no merit. “Educational institutions,” he added, don’t “have an obligation to guarantee employment, nor did they ever guarantee employment.”

In addition to Volpe, Ed O’Toole, Michael Hartmere, Ari Peled, and Louis DiLorenzo of Venable’s New York office represented Florida Coastal.
