Venable's Michael Robinson Sworn in as Virginia State Bar President

Tysons Corner, VA – June 20, 2016 – Venable partner Michael W. Robinson has been sworn in as the 78th president of the Virginia State Bar at its annual meeting on June 17. Mr. Robinson, who will serve as President for the 2016-17 term, has been serving as President-Elect since last June. He was elected by active bar members following a month-long election in December 2014.

A member of Venable's Commercial Litigation Group, Mr. Robinson focuses on commercial disputes, business torts, legal malpractice defense, and the protection of intellectual property rights. His practice emphasizes litigation in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the local state courts in Northern Virginia.

Active with the Virginia State Bar for years, Mr. Robinson serves on the Virginia State Bar Council, the Executive Committee of Council, and chairs the Bar's Standing Committee on Legal Ethics. He previously served on the Faculty of the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course, and was Chair of the Bar’s Special Committee on Bench-Bar Relations for three years. He is also active in the local Fairfax County Bar Association, one of the largest local bar associations in the country, and previously served as Chair of the Fairfax Bar Association Circuit Court Committee for two years.

Created in 1938 by the General Assembly, the Virginia State Bar is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Its mission is to regulate the legal profession of Virginia, to advance the availability and quality of legal services provided to the people of Virginia, and to assist in improving the legal profession and the judicial system.
