Philadelphia Inquirer quotes Larry Norton on pay-to-play rules in campaign contributions

Venable partner Larry Norton was quoted in an August 22, 2016 Philadelphia Inquirer article on how pay-to-play rules are affecting contributions to the Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns. Norton’s comments came from a July 25 Political Law Briefing blog post on the topic.

Because Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine does not currently hold a state office, "pay-to-play rules that apply to contributions to Trump/Pence do not apply to Clinton/Kaine," according to Norton. He cautioned investors to "exercise extreme caution with respect to how they engage" the Trump campaign because even social media likes could be considered a "prohibited solicitation."
