Harrison Taylor, an associate in Venable’s Product Liability and Mass Torts Practice, was named KIND’s (Kids in Need of Defense) Baltimore Pro Bono Advocate of the Year for his work helping two Honduran children in their efforts to become legal residents. The clients, both minors, were detained when entering the United States through Texas in 2016.
"Working with my KIND clients has been the most rewarding pro bono experience of my career,” said Mr. Taylor. “Unaccompanied children referred by KIND have experienced remarkable hardships and need motivated advocates to help them navigate an immigration process that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. Having the opportunity to help my clients through this process and seeing the positive impact it has had upon their lives has been incredible."
KIND is the preeminent U.S.-based nongovernment organization devoted to the protection of unaccompanied and separated children. KIND envisions a world in which every unaccompanied child on the move has access to legal counsel and their rights and well-being are protected as they migrate alone in search of safety. Since its inception in 2008, KIND has received referrals for more than 27,000 cases and now serves over 5,900 children annually in partnership with nearly 700 law firm, corporate, law school, and bar association partners.
