Washington, DC (July 17, 2023) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that William J. Vigen has joined the firm as a partner in the Antitrust Group in the Washington, DC office.
Mr. Vigen is an experienced trial attorney who represents clients in high-profile antitrust litigation and government investigations. He was previously with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Antitrust Division, Criminal Section II, where he led investigations and litigated criminal prosecutions against major companies and individuals for antitrust violations. At DOJ, Mr. Vigen prosecuted the first-ever criminal no-poach case and argued successfully, in an issue of first impression, that no-poach allegations could proceed under a per se theory under the Sherman Antitrust Act. Prior to his service in the public sector, Mr. Vigen worked at a large, prominent law firm, where he served on teams representing multinational companies and senior executives in complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense, with a primary focus on antitrust.
“Bill’s litigation and investigations experience at the DOJ will be a tremendous asset to our clients who need help with various levels of complicated antitrust matters. We are delighted to bring his skills and practical knowledge to Venable, where he will complement our sophisticated group of attorneys,” said Lisa Jose Fales, chair of the firm’s Antitrust Group.
Commenting on his move to Venable, Mr. Vigen said, “Joining Venable provides me with the ideal opportunity to continue practicing antitrust law at the highest level with an exceptionally collaborative and impressive team of attorneys.”
Mr. Vigen received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, and his B.A. in economics from the University of South Carolina Honors College. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable M. Blane Michael of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
