Andrew S. Hirsch


Andrew Hirsch works in Venable's Tysons Corner office as a real estate associate. He is passionate about serving his clients with the highest levels of competence, efficiency, and attentiveness to help them minimize risk and maximize value.

Andrew regularly represents real estate investors and developers across the country on a broad range of matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, structure formation and reorganization, foreclosure, subdivision, corporate mergers & acquisitions, local counsel review and opinion drafting, and general corporate matters. Also, from his experience on a variety of transactions throughout Virginia, he is well-versed on the laws, norms, and customs prevailing in the Commonwealth, including such particulars as Virginia land trusts and state transfer taxes.

He graduated, with honors, from Emory University School of Law, where he was an Editor of the Emory Law Journal and had an article published in that periodical. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chinese and Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Before law school, Andrew lived in China and Taiwan for nearly four years. He studied Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing and National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei. Andrew also worked as a paralegal at the Beijing office of a major U.S. law firm, where he assisted with various cross-border transactions.

  • Represent national real estate investment management firm in Virginia office leasing matters, transition of asset management accounts, and acquisition of suburban multi-family garden asset in Texas
  • Represent upstart real estate investment firm in raising private equity, securing financing, and acquiring urban multi-family tower in Arlington, Virginia, which included complex issues related to zoning, ground leasing, and reciprocal easements
  • Represent international private equity management firm in various matters, including corporate reorganization, investment fund formation, and real estate disposition
  • Represent individual, high-net worth investor in resolving partnership dispute with respect to first-class office building in Washington, D.C.
  • Represent boutique special servicer in conducting real estate foreclosures across Virginia, including in Fairfax, Henrico, Chesterfield, and Halifax Counties, as well as the disposition of foreclosed assets outside of Virginia
  • Provide concierge legal representation to high-net worth individuals in buying and selling residential real estate, including a home in Hollywood, California and a farm in Middleburg, Virginia
  • Serve as Virginia local counsel in real estate and corporate finance, reviewing loan documents for compliance with Virginia law and drafting legal opinions for authority, enforceability, and lien perfection
  • Represent national non-profit organization in connection with the acquisition of thousands of acres of raw land along the Gulf Coast to be held in conservation


Andrew enjoys using his skills and knowledge to provide pro bono legal services to various religious, educational, and other civic organizations. Notably, he reviewed various contracts in connection with Venable's representation of the Fairfax 2015 World Police & Fire Games. He lives in Fairfax County with his wife and child and attends Fairfax Baptist Church.
