Nora Garrote will present "WMACCA 101 - Trademark and Copyright Protections and Licensing."
This is the first program in a multi-part overview of intellectual property basics for generalists who need to have a fundamental understanding of how to protect their company's intellectual property. This program will briefly review the basics of copyright and trademark - what they protect and how to secure those protections. The program will focus on the practical application of those protections, as we move into a discussion of licensing of copyrighted materials and trademarks/service marks. The presentation will use actual Web sites and information technology products as hypotheticals. We also will touch on some of the patent issues that may arise even on a simple Web site.
A follow-up 101 on patents and trade secrets will be presented in June. WMACCA will apply for 1.5 hours of Virginia Bar MCLE credit for this program.
