Kevin L. Shepherd will speak at the annual conference of the American Association of Law Schools on January 8, 2010. Kevin’s presentation will focus on current legislative efforts to impose anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing obligations on the legal profession and the negotiations that led to the issuance of the Risk Based Approach for Legal Professionals by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (“FATF”) in October 2008. Kevin will also analyze the development of good practices guidance developed by the ABA and other groups in 2009 in response to the FATF action.
Kevin’s co-panelist will be Colin Tyre, an Edinburgh, Scotland-based solicitor who is a former president of the Council of Bars & Law Societies of Europe, the representative organization for over 1 million European lawyers. Kevin and Colin have worked closely together for several years in the international arena on the Gatekeeper Initiative and the risk-based approach for legal professionals.
