As social networking sites continue to grow in number, popularity, and user base, independent schools face unique challenges in maintaining appropriate boundaries between students, faculty/staff, parents, alumnae, and other members of the community without sacrificing the instructional and operational benefits offered by social media tools. The legal landscape and community expectations regarding social media continue to evolve. We’ll discuss social media from multiple perspectives and the related legal issues, with special attention to policies regarding acceptable use of technology, student conduct, employee conduct, and school communications.
