It has been exactly two years since the FTC issued its Proposed Revisions to the Environmental Marketing Guides. The first of this month, the Commission issued the revised Green Guides in final form. Why did it take two years? In the words of Jim Kohm, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection Enforcement Division, and project leader for the revisions: “Getting it quickly is important; getting it right is more important.” After analyzing literally thousands of comments, the Agency has issued its guidance for business that will affect marketers and their counselors for years to come.
