Kevin Shepherd, chair of the ABA Task Force on Gatekeeper Regulation and the Profession, chaired a program of international bar leaders on August 10 at the ABA annual meeting. The participants exchanged views on current Gatekeeper Initiative developments, including the typologies report issued in June 2013 by the Financial Action Task Force in Paris, the appellate litigation in Canada involving Gatekeeper obligations imposed on the legal profession in Canada, and the Michaux case in France.
Participants included the president of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe, which represents the bars and law societies of 32 member countries in Europe, the president of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, officials with the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and officers of the Law Society of England and Wales.
