David Strickland will present "Highly Automated Vehicles and Risk Reduction" at the "Turning the Corner on Rising Roadway Risk: Traditional and Innovative Solutions" program hosted by the World Traffic Symposium.
The decade old decline in traffic fatalities has stalled and reversed in the past two years. Last year, roadway casualties increased in nearly every crash category including speeding, unbelted occupants, motorcycle riders, commercial vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and involved young drivers. The result is that 2016 saw the highest number of roadway deaths in ten years and the trend continued through 2017.
This panel will include discussions on how vehicle crash avoidance technologies, safer road designs, and safety campaigns to increase safety belt use and reduce drunk and distracted driving will look to reverse this alarming trend.
