State attorney general and congressional investigations are fast-moving, high-stakes inquiries that can distract your nonprofit from its mission, divert important resources, harm your reputation with donors, and even play out on the public stage. State charity enforcers and committees in both the House and Senate have numerous formal and informal investigative techniques at their disposal. State AGs continue to be an incredibly active legal and political force throughout the country, often joining forces in far-reaching multistate investigations that can culminate in litigation. Simultaneously, in the 116th Congress, organizations and companies are facing a changed landscape in the U.S. House of Representatives and continued investigations by many Senate committees. In this program, we will hear perspectives and insights from the investigators and the investigated. They will discuss the challenges unique to these types of investigations, as well as how to prepare and respond effectively, minimize reputational and legal risk, and get back to your charitable purpose as quickly as possible.
