While the COVID-19 crisis continues to spread on a scale rarely seen before, fund managers in international development and impact investment should start thinking of what comes next. On Thursday, June 11, Venable will be hosting a webinar on impact investing, led by two impact investment fund managers, Emmett Partners and SEAF (Small Enterprise Assistance Funds). Venable partner Philip von Mehren will serve as the moderator. The roundtable discussion is intended for anyone who desires to learn more about “impact investing” in the time of COVID-19. Discussion topics will include how impact investors can help rebuild economies around the world and the sectors they should target post-COVID-19.
SEAF will be represented by Bert van der Vaart, its CEO and co-founder. SEAF is a global leader in small- and medium-enterprise (SME) finance. Over its 30-year history, SEAF has managed, or is currently managing, 38 funds and has made more than 400 risk capital investments – deploying more than $550 million in growth capital – in entrepreneurs whose products and services improve the lives of people in a financially, socially, and environmentally sustainable manner. Bert and his co-founder Tom Gibson helped pioneer modern impact investing, that is, investing that advances social and environmental goals in addition to producing financial returns.
Emmett Partners will be represented by its managing partner, Chris Vroman, and partner Laura Fenster Rothschild. Emmett Partners is a thought leader that focuses on the potential for social impact through investment. Building upon decades of experience in family office and traditional business management models, Emmett Partners pairs thoughtful financial management with an eye to legacy and purpose. Its fund backs early-stage companies that are in their post-product launch stage and have stable, recurring revenue. Emmett Partners seeks to partner with mission-driven founders who are creating innovative solutions to the problems outlined in the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
