Ariel Wolf will present "Advancing Truck Automation to the Edge," to be hosted by ITS America Events at ITS America World Congress 2022 on September 19, 2022.
There have been major advancements in truck automation in the last three years, leading to new technologies, companies, and partnerships that are all bringing this technology from research into the real world. A major focus on real-world deployment has been carefully and methodically designing and testing this technology over millions of real-world road miles with the goal of eventually demonstrating that drivers can safely be removed from cabs in 'optimal' circumstances. In the United States, this has been primarily in the southwest, where there are long stretches of rural interstates with less traffic and predictable, uneventful weather. But what about the edge cases: first and last mile, yard and terminal movements, inclement and unpredictable weather?
There are many ongoing efforts tackling these 'edge cases' and working on understanding the application of truck automation technology in these cases. This session will bring together public agencies, technology developers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), trucking fleets, and advocacy organizations to examine the projects and solutions that are tackling these unique use cases.
