In the next three years alone, Los Angeles and nearby municipalities will be hosting millions of athletes and spectators from across the globe for a combination of the FIFA World Cup games, the Olympic Games, and the Superbowl. Millions more visit nearby theme parks and movie studios on an annual basis. And many other cities across the country routinely host major sporting and entertainment events. Each event presents incredible opportunities to showcase the vibrancy, artistry, and athleticism of the region and event participants. Each also presents the potential for increased—and significant—risk.

This panel discussion will address the steps that sports and entertainment entities can and should take now to mitigate the risks of owning, operating, or participating in major sports and entertainment events. We will also explore nuanced risks—and opportunities—for those that contract with or promote these events, and best practices for responsible engagement.

Drawing on years of experience working across the federal and local governments and supporting large entities in the aftermath of crisis, our experts will discuss the current threat environment, particularly in light of evolving cyber-related threats and risks posed by the malicious use of drones; steps to mitigate risk and associated legal liability; and ways to effectively prepare for and ultimately respond in the aftermath of a crisis.
