Workplace Labor Update - Paid Adoption Leave in Maryland – July 1999

1 min

Effective July 1, 1999, the State of Maryland will require employers who provide paid leave to employees following child birth to provide the same amount of paid leave to any employee who adopts a child. This enactment provides a benefit above and beyond the requirements of the Family and Medical Leave Act, which allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave during a 12 month period for various qualifying reasons, including adoption of a child.
