Michael A. Guerra


Mike Guerra has experience in complex litigation, including insurance, arbitration, and other contract disputes. Mike has drafted pleadings and pre-trial motions, engaged in discovery and appellate practice, and assisted firm clients with internal investigations.

Representative Matters

Mike has worked on the following matters for firm clients, among others:

  • Serving in key role as part of a virtual law firm representing a pharmaceutical company against products liability claims in a multi-district litigation;
  • Defending breach of stock purchase agreement claims between defense contracting companies;
  • Briefing an appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in defense of the district court’s post-trial damages award for breach of contract in the aviation industry;
  • Defending a consulting and coaching company in a shareholder and intra-board dispute;
  • Conducting internal investigations for nonprofit corporations relating to employee misconduct and fraud;
  • Litigating a special proceeding in the Commercial Division of the New York State Supreme Court to stay an arbitration proceeding against former investment bankers of a large banking institution’s private equity group;
  • Briefing a motion for reargument and/or for leave to appeal to the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, First Judicial Department;
  • Defending an international cargo and shipping corporation in a dispute before the Federal Maritime Commission;  
  • Advising state-created public benefit corporations on their disclosure obligations under New York’s Freedom of Information Law; and
  • Defending the senior lender and various junior lenders in connection with inter-creditor disputes arising out of a multi-billion-dollar financing for a large residential complex in New York City.

Mike has represented several clients pro bono in connection with asylum applications, and related petitions, before the United States Immigration Court and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Prior to law school, Mike worked in electoral politics and government. Mike has held positions with elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels, and he has worked on political campaigns, including campaigns for president and the United States Senate.
