Theresa Clardy LaFazia focuses on domestic and international tax planning, international tax compliance and reporting, tax controversy, and litigation for talent, entertainment executives, high-net-worth individuals, and businesses. Theresa advises clients on tax-efficient strategies, including structuring inbound and outbound transactions and corporate reorganizations. She advises individuals and families investing in or relocating to the United States or other countries, as well as businesses, on the tax aspects of operating outside their home jurisdiction. She helps establish corporations, companies, partnerships, and joint ventures around the world and works extensively with Venable’s Private Wealth Planning Group in establishing foreign and domestic trusts.
Theresa also has deep experience with California-specific issues, such as California income taxation of businesses, trusts, and individuals; sales and use taxes; and property tax. A significant portion of Theresa's practice is dedicated to helping clients resolve tax controversy and litigation matters with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB), and the city of Los Angeles. Theresa represents individuals, businesses, and fiduciaries in all stages of tax disputes, including audits, administrative appeals, refund actions, collection disputes, and litigation in state and federal courts.
