Meriem El-Khattabi’s practice focuses on planning and controversies involving state and local taxation, tax credits, and other specialized state tax incentive programs. Meriem regularly counsels clients on the full range of multistate tax issues, including income, franchise, sales and use, recordation and transfer, and property taxes. She monitors developments in tax law and performs tax due diligence and in-depth research on tax issues relevant to her clients’ businesses and objectives. Meriem participates on teams representing clients in tax-related settlement negotiations, mediation, and litigation. Clients appreciate her ability to explain complex issues to those with little or no tax experience.

Prior to joining Venable, Meriem practiced state and local tax law at the Chicago office of a global law firm and worked as a tax consultant for a Big Four accounting firm. Her experience includes working with various legal entities, including S-corps, C-corps, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and partnerships.
