Keith Olsen

Associate
Olsen Keith

Keith Olsen supports clients in labor and employment matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Keith counsels and litigates for clients in the education, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors. He regularly counsels clients on preparing employment-related documents, including handbooks, workplace policies (e.g., PTO, social media, personal device), and severance and employment agreements. His litigation experience includes defending an independent school employer in a Child Victims Act matter; a large university in a historic collective bargaining effort before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB); and small, medium, and large businesses across various industries in wage-and-hour cases.

In addition to traditional employment counseling, Keith advises educational institutions on issues unique to schools and universities, informed by his extensive experience in higher education. This includes, most recently, a significant redesign of a university’s Title IX sexual misconduct policies and procedures in response to 2024 revisions the U.S. Department of Education (ED) made to Title IX regulations. It also includes internal investigations of employees and students at various institutions.

Prior to joining Venable, Keith spent 15 years in journalism and higher education. He has worked at ABC News, Columbia University, and New York University (NYU). Most recently, Keith was director of communications and chief of staff at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, where he oversaw the school's communications team and managed the operations of the Dean's Office. While at NYU, he also designed and taught a graduate communications course as an adjunct instructor for many years.
