Sophia Porotsky focuses her practice on complex civil litigation and works with clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, hospitality, healthcare, life sciences, and media and entertainment. Sophia represents plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in New York and across the U.S. in a broad range of matters, including securities fraud, theft of trade secrets, business torts, breach of fiduciary duty, complex breach of contract, and international commercial disputes. She also has experience with corporate governance and investigations, and federal and state government enforcement defense.

In law school, Sophia was an award-winning competitor and executive board member of the Brendan Moore Trial Advocates and a member of the Moot Court team. She also spent two semesters as a legal intern in Fordham's Federal Litigation Clinic, representing indigent clients in civil and criminal proceedings in district court and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

  • Represented a hotel management company in a lawsuit against a former executive and his new competing business, alleging that they violated state trade secret laws, knowingly participated in the breach of fiduciary duties, and tortiously interfered with contractual relationships by stealing confidential information and using it to poach clients
  • Represented an international hotel management company in cross-border litigation arising from a hotel management agreement dispute
  • Advised and conducted an investigation on behalf of the Demand Review Committee of the Board of an alternative asset management company in connection with various shareholder claims concerning alleged Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulatory violations
  • Defended a variety of corporations and their officers and directors in federal and state securities actions
  • Provided strategic advice to a public company in its securities law proceedings arising out of a merger transaction
  • Represented healthcare clients before the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the New York State Attorney General Medicaid Fraud Control Unit
  • Conducted numerous internal investigations for financial services clients related to obligations to report to regulators
