Ashley C. Short

Short Ashley
Ashley Short is counsel in the firm's Tax and Wealth Planning Group. She focuses her practice on estate planning for high net worth individuals to help them meet their personal goals, whether that involves preserving assets for future generations, leaving a charitable legacy, providing for pets, or some combination thereof. She assists clients with basic estate planning, such as wills, trusts, advance directives, and durable powers of attorney, and complex gifting techniques, such as GRATs and family LLCs. 

Ashley also supervises the administration of estates, helping clients through the probate and administration processes. She helps personal representatives and family members reduce estate taxation through post-mortem estate planning. She prepares Maryland and federal estate tax returns and represents individuals and estates in gift and estate tax audits.

Prior to joining Venable, Ashley served as law clerk to the Honorable Benson Everett Legg, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court of Maryland. Prior to law school, she worked as a research analyst for the Center for Studying Health System Change in Washington, DC.

Personal Activities

Ashley is actively involved in the firm’s recruiting efforts.  She serves on the advisory committee for the Maryland SPCA’s annual March for the Animals and the board of Alumni and Friends of Roland Park Elementary-Middle School.   In her spare time, she enjoys genealogy and travel.
