Thomas E.D. (Ted) Millspaugh


Ted Millspaugh, Chair of the firm's Real Estate Group, has a broad range of experience and provides a variety of services to clients in the real estate field. He is well-versed in joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions, development projects, leasing transactions, and financings (including workouts and restructurings). He is also very familiar with many of the major property types: office and industrial projects, retail centers, residential (including multi-family) projects, senior living facilities, and hotel/resort properties. His clients include investment management firms, public pension funds, private equity investors and other institutional players in real estate, as well as families and individuals with significant real estate holdings. The breadth and depth of Ted's practice enables him to add value to his clients' businesses and to achieve creative solutions to their most important problems.


Institutional Investment / Capital Markets / Private Equity
  • Representation of one of the world's largest investment management firms and its pension fund investors in acquisition, disposition, leasing and financing transactions in over 30 states.
  • Representation of joint venture between major investment management firm and major state pension fund in acquisition, development, leasing and sale of multiple warehouse and distribution centers throughout the U.S.
  • Representation of institutional investor in joint ventures with national retail REIT for over $500 million in acquisition and development transactions.

Real Estate Finance / Loan Workouts & Restructurings
  • Representation of major state pension fund and its advisor in a complex $294 million master credit facility secured by four multi-family projects.
  • Representation of troubled loan fund in workouts and restructurings related to $250+ million of loans secured by properties throughout the U.S.

Leasing / Management / Corporate Facilities
  • Handling of real estate facilities for one of world's largest asset management firms in 12 countries throughout U.S., Europe, Asia and South America.
  • Represented state pension funds and their advisors in hundreds of leasing transactions for office, industrial and retail properties throughout the U.S.

Permitting / Development / Construction
  • Representation of global financial institution in negotiation, leasing and development of three regional headquarters and its 350,000+ SF global headquarters.
  • Represented national office supplies retailer in acquisition, development and financing of highly automated distribution centers in California, Maryland and Connecticut.


Ted is an active member of the Pension Real Estate Association, the Urban Land Institute, and the Real Property Section of the Maryland State Bar Association. Ted also serves on several boards, including the Board of Directors of the continuing care retirement community of Roland Park Place, Inc. He has recently served on the advisory board of a national title company and several secondary schools in the State of Maryland.
