This week, Venable announced the addition of five new attorneys to its patent prosecution and litigation groups in the Washington, DC office. Partners Mark Shanks, Toni Herbert, and Michele Frank, of counsel Therese Finan and associate Fabian M. Koenigbauer joined Venable to focus on litigation as well as patent counsel/prosecution. The group also handles M&A, commercialization and licensing of IP assets.

News of the group’s move to Venable was featured in the January 24, 2012 edition of Thomson Reuters News & Insight and the January 23, 2012 editions of Law360, The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times, and Citybizlist Washington, DC. Speaking with The Blog of Legal Times about the impact of the America Invents Act on the group’s practice, Shanks said, “Like many firms, we anticipate with the AIA, we will be in the realm of opposition and doing more arguing on behalf of our clients.” Commenting on why the group chose to move to Venable, Shanks told The Blog of Legal Times, “It’s an unbeatable combination… The bench strength and the team mentality should be a great service to our clients.”
