Venable partner Stu Ingis was quoted in an April 4, 2012 Law360 article on a new system launched by the mobile advertising industry that allows consumers to opt out of mobile ads. In addition, the new system also includes a self-regulatory group aimed at developing an alternative standard for mobile device identification. The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA), a coalition made up of representatives from leading advertising groups, is backing the new system.

Commenting on the efforts of the mobile advertising industry, Ingis, who serves as general counsel for the DAA, said, “Regardless of the channel, the success of any online privacy program requires the support of multiple industry players… The DAA is working on standards that will ensure consumers are aware of their choices regarding the collection of data in the mobile environment — providing trust through transparency.”
