Practice group and three partners currently ranked nationally by Chambers USA
Washington, DC – April 9, 2014 – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted for the coveted Chambers USA Award for Excellence in the Product Liability category. Each year, Chambers USA, one of the nation's leading guides to law firms and attorneys, presents the Awards for Excellence at the conclusion of its annual research process. The Award recognizes the one firm performing the most cutting-edge legal work in an area of law. Venable is one of six firms nationwide shortlisted in this category. Winners will be announced on Thursday, May 22 at an event in New York City.
In 2013, Venable debuted in the Chambers USA national rankings for Product Liability and Mass Torts and will be ranked again in the 2014 edition. Last year in its editorial commentary, Chambers praised the group saying, "This practice enjoys an excellent reputation in the product liability sphere, especially for its expertise in pharmaceuticals cases. The team also wins accolades for its responsiveness and fast turnaround." Client sources echoed Chambers' praise citing the "team of very talented lawyers."
Along with the group, three Venable partners – Stephen E. Marshall, Bruce R. Parker, and Paul F. Strain – are also ranked individually for Product Liability and Mass Torts. In their debut year, client sources described Mr. Marshall as an "Excellent courtroom lawyer" and praised Mr. Parker for his "great reputation as a trial lawyer in the product liability field." Ranked every year since 2009, Mr. Strain was called an "excellent strategist who tries cases well." Mr. Marshall and Mr. Parker will add national rankings for Product Liability: Pharmaceutical in the 2014 edition.
Venable has had a successful history with the Chambers USA Award for Excellence in recent years. The firm's Privacy and Data Security Group was shortlisted for the award in 2008 and won it in 2009. For four consecutive years from 2010 to 2013, Venable's Advertising and Marketing Group was shortlisted for the award, winning it in 2010 and 2011. Both categories were retired by Chambers this year. Privacy retired in 2010.
Venable has one of the most active and respected product liability practices in the United States and is particularly well known for its defense of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. The group is currently involved in approximately 6,000 pharmaceutical and medical device products liability cases nationwide and serves as lead counsel for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in federal multidistrict litigation and state court coordinated proceedings in Arkansas, California, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. The group has also assisted pharmaceutical clients in defending against products liability claims in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Hungary, New Zealand, Spain, and the United Kingdom; and in responding to investigations by the United States Senate and United States Department of Justice.
