Venable has one of the most active and respected product liability practices in the United States. We are particularly well known for our defense of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in jurisdictions across the country.
In the past five years, Venable has served as lead counsel for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) and state-wide coordinated proceedings in Arkansas, California, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Our clients also routinely call on us to defend them in jurisdictions such as Atlantic County, New Jersey; Madison and St. Clair Counties, Illinois; Montgomery County, Alabama; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Miami-Dade County, Florida. We have also represented our pharmaceutical and medical device clients in consumer class actions, most recently defeating class certification in federal courts in California and New York. We have also assisted our pharmaceutical clients in responding to congressional investigations and in defending against mass tort claims in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Our product liability experience is not limited to pharmaceutical and medical device cases. We have also represented clients in product liability matters involving asbestos, tobacco, automobiles, industrial chemicals, and consumer electronics.
We are, first and foremost, trial lawyers. Our product liability lawyers have won verdicts in the toughest jurisdictions in the United States, as well as verdicts named among the "top defense verdicts of the year" by the National Law Journal. Several members of our team are Fellows in the American College of Trial Lawyers – an honor that "is extended only by invitation, after careful investigation" to "experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy."
We are also skilled appellate advocates. Our product liability lawyers have won cases in the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, Fourth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits, as well as in state appellate courts across the country.
