WASHINGTON, DC - February 11, 2015 – Venable's market-leading Advertising Law practice announced the addition of experienced advertising and consumer class action attorney Daniel S. Blynn, who joins the firm's Washington office as counsel.

Mr. Blynn has a longtime practice focusing on litigation stemming from false advertising and other consumer claims. He has handled numerous private consumer actions, as well as regulatory and enforcement proceedings brought by the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general, including cases involving the FTC Act, Lanham Act and state consumer protection laws.

He regularly advises clients on such issues as advertising substantiation, native advertising and federal and state telemarketing laws and regulations. In addition to representing suppliers in the nutritional supplement space, he works with a wide range of sectors including retail, security, manufacturing and others.

At Venable, Mr. Blynn joins one of the nation's top-ranked advertising law practices – the group is one of the few to win the Chambers USA Award for Excellence in consecutive years. US News & World Report named Venable its Advertising "Law Firm of the Year" in 2012 and 2014. Legal 500 has repeatedly named Venable a "Top-Tier Firm" for advertising and marketing. The firm's clients include leading global consumer and financial services brands, and national direct marketers, as well as the largest professional associations for the advertising and marketing industry. The firm also produces one of the most widely-followed blogs on advertising law: http://www.allaboutadvertisinglaw.com/.

"Dan is a great addition to our practice. He's advised key stakeholders in some of the top false advertising disputes adjudicated in the last few years. With false advertising and class actions a constant threat for every consumer-facing company, we’re certain that Dan, who brings outstanding experience in litigation and regulatory enforcement, will quickly become a pivotal member of our group," said Jeffrey D. Knowles, head of Venable's Advertising, Marketing and New Media practices.

"Venable is well known for its work in advertising and marketing law – the firm has also developed one of the leading specialties in counseling on brand protection," Mr. Blynn said. "In addition, the firm has one of the strongest litigation platforms, along with a roster of clients that includes pacesetting professional groups in direct marketing, electronic retailing and brand advertising. I'm thrilled to be joining a certified best-in-class firm for handling all facets of advertising and marketing law."

In addition to his advertising work, Mr. Blynn has an active pro bono practice handling cases involving asylum and human rights issues, and "notario fraud." He has successfully represented individuals facing deportation from Sierra Leone and the Central African Republic. He also serves on the board of the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights Coalition.

Mr. Blynn received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law (2003) and his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University (2000). He has been an adjunct professor of law at George Washington University Law School.
