Venable partner Thora A. Johnson was quoted in a June 26, 2015 Corporate Counsel article on the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that individuals can keep subsidies provided to them through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) regardless of what state they live in. With the ACA moving forward, in-house attorneys are working to get their companies fully compliant with the law.

One aspect of the law attorneys are working on is the excise tax on expensive health plans, known as the Cadillac Tax, which becomes effective in 2018. "It's a complicated rule, and many plans would already trigger the additional tax," said Johnson. "I think you’ll see a lot of focus on the Cadillac Tax as 2018 is seeming much closer than it used to."
