WASHINGTON, DC (December 19, 2019) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Alexander Botting has joined the firm as senior director of international cybersecurity services. Mr. Botting most recently served as director for global regulatory cooperation at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he led initiatives in the areas of cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and regulatory cooperation.
Mr. Botting has extensive experience in international policy, having executed advocacy campaigns on technology policy issues in more than 50 countries spanning five continents. During his tenure at the Chamber, Mr. Botting launched its global cybersecurity and law enforcement access initiatives, championing the use of international standards and best practices on behalf of several dozen member companies. He also provided guidance to senior Chamber and member company executives on technology policy issues, while managing relationships with officials in the White House, Department of Commerce, Department of State, and Office of the United States Trade Representative.
Before joining the Chamber, Mr. Botting spent two years in Chicago as a consultant at a leading provider for global business intelligence and strategic market analysis, where he worked with a range of Fortune 500 companies to create international expansion and product development strategies. Prior to that, he worked for three years at a government affairs firm in Washington, DC, where he served as director of international affairs. He advocated for client interests within multilateral institutions and through direct engagement with both U.S. and foreign government officials.

Mr. Botting received his M.A. in Political Management from The George Washington University in 2015, and his B.A. in Political Science & International Relations from the University of Warwick in 2011.
