Washington, DC (June 21, 2022) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Ryan Lapine has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Practice in the Los Angeles office. Mr. Lapine is an accomplished litigator with a demonstrated history of first-chair trial success in complex federal and state court matters.

Mitch Evall, partner-in-charge of Venable’s Los Angeles office, said, “In addition to representing entities within the entertainment industry, Ryan has built a thriving practice in the cryptocurrency space. These industries are of increasing importance to our clients and, along with his entertainment and general litigation experience, make Ryan a terrific asset to both our established and emerging practices.”

Geoffrey R. Garinther, chair of Venable’s Litigation Division, said, “Ryan maintains an impressive reputation for excelling in trial, regardless of venue or claim. His ability to protect his clients’ interests and adapt to a wide range of matters will bolster our existing bench of skilled litigators.”

Clients call on Mr. Lapine to handle their most complex, high-stakes disputes, regardless of subject matter. He has significant experience in insurance recovery, intellectual property, trust and estate, and complex business disputes, with thorough understanding of entertainment, cryptocurrency, and cannabis industry issues. He also provides counseling to clients navigating pending and potential insurance claims. Mr. Lapine has helped clients resolve insurance recovery litigation through settlement negotiations and at trial. He won the second-largest insurance-recovery jury verdict in California in 2015.

Mr. Lapine represents significant clients in the cryptocurrency space, including the founder and developer of a major cryptocurrency and the foundation that manages and supports a major cryptocurrency, in federal and state litigation. In addition, he regularly represents entertainment companies and well-known entertainers in a broad range of business and IP litigation arising from contract disputes, breaches of fiduciary duty, fraud, copyright and patent infringement claims, and violations of the right of publicity. He also handles a variety of business litigation for companies big and small, including breach of contract and licensing matters, defense of qui tam actions, intellectual property infringement, and business defamation. In addition, he represents high-net-worth individuals in trust, estate, and family disputes arising from palimony actions, removal of trustees, fraudulent property conveyances, complex marital dissolutions, and more.

Commenting on his move to Venable, Mr. Lapine said, "Joining Venable feels like the culmination of my legal career. I am excited to work with such an accomplished group of legal professionals and look forward to the resources this platform will provide my clients."
