Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Jeffery A. Meyer has joined the firm as a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group in the New York office. Mr. Meyer’s practice encompasses the full spectrum of labor and employment law matters, including wage and hour litigation, labor relations, and employment practices defense.

“Our New York office has long been committed to smart growth, selecting attorneys who both complement and augment our existing capabilities. Jeff is no exception. His work across industries will dovetail nicely not only with our Labor and Employment Group, but also with the New York office and the firm at large,” said Matthew T. McLaughlin, partner-in-charge of Venable’s New York office.

Mr. Meyer has substantial litigation experience defending against federal and state wage and hour collective and class actions, as well as audits and investigations before the U.S. Department of Labor and New York State Department of Labor. He regularly represents clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and its state and local equivalents and defends clients in state and federal court against claims filed under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and related state and local anti-discrimination laws.

In addition to defending employers against discrimination and retaliation claims, Mr. Meyer advises employers in all matters related to the union organizing and collective bargaining processes. He frequently appears before the National Labor Relations Board and has significant arbitration and mediation experience dealing with unions across the full spectrum of industries and disciplines. His practice also includes providing counsel to employers, large and small, as it relates to their daily employment decisions and compliance needs.

Michael J. Volpe, a co-chair of Venable’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, said, “Jeff has ample experience acting as both a trusted advisor and skilled litigator. His success before numerous federal and state regulatory agencies will be of considerable value to our clients. We welcome him to our team.”

Nicholas M. Reiter, a co-chair of Venable’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, said, “Our practice prides itself on the versatility of our bench. In addition to providing counsel to employers on an array of pertinent matters, Jeff’s in-depth understanding of key industries, including hospitality and education, will blend well with our team.”

Commenting on his move to Venable, Mr. Meyer said, “Venable is host to a vibrant labor and employment group that has continuously grown in both its capabilities and reach. My practice and clients will benefit greatly from the team’s collective experience and the firm’s wider platform.”

Mr. Meyer received his J.D. from St. John's University School of Law and his B.S.B.A. in Business Management from Bucknell University.
