Kevin Shepherd chaired two programs held on September 23 and 25, 2019 at the International Bar Association (IBA) annual meeting, "Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) And Cryptocurrencies: Financial Crime Issues" and "The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Other New Technologies and in Supporting Compliance and Helping Compliance and In-House Teams Work Smarter." Kevin's presentation focused on the role of lawyers in detecting and combating money laundering and terrorist financing, with a particular emphasis on the newly adopted Risk Based Approach for Legal Professionals issued by the Financial Action Task Force in June 2019. Kevin's co-presenters included Fergal Cathie, a partner in the London office of Clyde and Co.; Ken Kawai, a partner in the Tokyo office of Anderson Mori & Tomotsune; Samuel Yim, a senior foreign attorney in the South Korea office of Kim & Chang; Yung Sang Lee, a partner in the South Korea office of Yulchon; and Emma Oettinger, head of Financial Crime and Risk at Ashurst in London. Kevin is the senior vice chair of the IBA's Regulation of Lawyers' Compliance Committee.
